Legal notice

Stenciliner is a service published by BDG Studio, a general partnership (société en nom collectif, SNC) under Swiss law, with its registered office at 12 chemin des Bosquets, 1264 Saint-Cergue (VD), Switzerland. Registration: UID number pending (registration in the commercial register of the Canton of Vaud in progress). VAT number: not yet assigned.

Publication director: Guillaume Blouin. Contact: contact@stenciliner.com.

Hosting and technical providers

  • Web application: Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, United States — runtime servers in Europe (Frankfurt).
  • Database: Neon Inc. — Europe region (Frankfurt).
  • Storage of images and stencils: Cloudflare R2 (Cloudflare Inc.) — storage under European Union jurisdiction.
  • Stencil processing engine: Fly.io Inc. — servers in Paris.

General terms of use

By creating an account or using Stenciliner, you accept these terms. If you use it on behalf of a studio, you warrant that you have the authority to bind that studio.

1. The service

Stenciliner turns a drawing or a photo into a tattoo stencil: image recognition, a “Liner” stencil calculated at actual size, stencils generated by artificial intelligence (“HD” and “Pro”), a retouching editor, true-to-size printing, a full-screen display mode (“Tattoo Mode”) and an assistant that answers questions about the application.

For 7 days after the account is created, without a payment card, the instant engine (Liner stencil), the editor, printing and Tattoo Mode are free, plus 3 HD or Pro stencils free of charge. After that, an account without a subscription becomes read-only: your stencils remain viewable, printable and usable in Tattoo Mode, but creating new stencils and saving retouched versions are reserved for subscribers.

2. Account

  • The service is reserved for adults and intended for tattoo artists and tattoo studios; personal use is permitted.
  • You sign in with a link sent to your email address. No password is stored. You are responsible for access to your mailbox and for everything done from your account.
  • An account is personal. The Studio plan lets you invite up to five tattoo artists, each with their own account.
  • One free period per person and per email address, aliases included.

3. Subscriptions and payment

  • Plans: Solo (€17 incl. VAT per month) and Studio (€69 incl. VAT per month), billed monthly or yearly (one month free on yearly billing). Prices include all taxes and are the same in every country.
  • The subscription is charged as soon as you subscribe; there is no trial period with a card. The 7 free days with no card are there so you can try the service.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details never pass through our servers. Invoices, changes of card or plan and cancellation are handled in the Stripe portal, accessible from your Settings.
  • The subscription renews automatically. You can cancel it at any time: access remains open until the end of the period already paid, which is not refunded pro rata.
  • If a payment fails, several attempts are made over two weeks, with a grace period; without payment, the subscription is cancelled and the account becomes read-only. Your stencils remain viewable and printable.
  • If you are a consumer within the meaning of the law, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date you subscribe. By subscribing, you ask for the service to start immediately; if you withdraw within this period by writing to us, we refund the amount paid, minus the share corresponding to the days already elapsed.
  • A full refund or a payment dispute (chargeback with your bank) ends the subscription immediately.

4. Fair use

  • “Unlimited” means within normal professional use: beyond 300 HD or Pro generations per month (1,500 shared for a Studio), HD generation is slowed down: at most 20 additional HD generations per 24 hours for a Solo (60 for a Studio), resuming the next day. It is never cut off because of volume: only an incident or a technical ceiling of the service (computing capacity or budget at our providers) may pause it temporarily; the instant engine and the Liner stencil remain available. Anti-abuse limits of 30 AI generations per hour and 80 attempts per 24 hours (failures included) apply to each account. A failed generation is not counted.
  • The following are prohibited: reselling or subletting the service, sharing an account beyond the seats of a Studio plan, automating generations (scripts, bots), and any attempt to extract the engine or circumvent technical limits.

5. Results and liability

  • A stencil is a starting point for your work. The result of an AI generation can vary from one attempt to the next; the application makes a second attempt when the first looks doubtful and keeps the most faithful one, but it is up to you to check the stencil before transferring it to the skin. The Liner stencil and the backup stencil (delivered instead of an AI stencil that strays too far from the drawing) are calculated from the drawing and stay faithful to the linework; they must also be checked.
  • Stenciliner provides no tattooing service and is not responsible for the use made of a stencil on a person.
  • We do what is necessary to keep the service available at all times, but cannot guarantee it: maintenance, an incident at a provider or the temporary unavailability of an AI model may occur. The free features remain available if HD generation is interrupted.
  • To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amounts you have paid us over the last twelve months.

6. Ownership of the service

The application, its computing engines, its name, its logos and its texts belong to BDG Studio. You have a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right of use for as long as your account exists. The sample drawings offered in the Studio are royalty-free.

7. Suspension and closure

  • You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Data (immediate) or by writing to us; the deletion of your data is described below.
  • We may suspend or close an account in the event of a breach of these terms (unlawful content, payment fraud, abuse of the service), after notifying you, except in an emergency. Amounts already paid are not refunded in the event of closure for breach.

8. Changes to these terms

These terms may change with the service. Any significant change is announced to you by email or in the application at least fifteen days before it takes effect; continuing to use the service constitutes acceptance. If you do not accept it, you can cancel before it takes effect.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by Swiss law. Any dispute will be brought before the competent courts of the Canton of Vaud (Switzerland), without prejudice to the mandatory rules that protect consumers in their country of residence, including their right to bring proceedings before the courts of that country. Before taking any action, write to us: most problems are settled in a single exchange.

Your images and your rights

This is the most important rule in this document, because you are the one supplying the images.

What you upload remains yours

You keep all your rights to the images you upload. Stenciliner uses them only to provide the service to you (recognition, computing, generation, retouching, display in your account). They are never published, never used to train an artificial intelligence model, either by us or by our providers, and never shared with other users — with one exception, which you choose: if you join a studio (Studio plan), the members of that studio see your stencils and your original photos for as long as you belong to it.

You warrant that you have the right to use them

By uploading an image, you declare that you have the right to reproduce it in order to make a stencil: your own drawing, a drawing or photo your client brings you with their consent, a royalty-free image or one you hold a licence for. Do not upload:

  • a protected work (illustration, photo, logo, character) without its author's permission;
  • a photo of a recognisable person without their consent;
  • a sexual image involving a minor, or any unlawful image.

Stenciliner does not and cannot check the rights attached to an image: a tool does not know who drew what. As with a photocopier or drawing software, responsibility for the reproduction lies with the person who requests it. If you reproduce a protected work without permission, you alone are answerable for it, including to us if a claim is brought against us.

Reporting and removal

If you believe that an image or a stencil hosted on Stenciliner infringes your rights, write to contact@stenciliner.com stating the work concerned, the capacity in which you are acting and the details needed to identify it. We remove the content as quickly as possible and may close the account in the event of repeated breaches.

The stencils belong to you

The stencils produced from your images belong to you, commercial use included. We claim no rights to them.

Personal data

Data controller: BDG Studio, Guillaume Blouin, contact@stenciliner.com.

What we process, and why

  • Your email address and your sign-in session — to identify you and send you sign-in links and codes, and emails related to your subscription (performance of the contract).
  • Your images, stencils, retouched versions and settings (“My style”, print width) — to provide the service and let you access your stencils later (performance of the contract).
  • Your billing data (name, address, VAT number where applicable, payment history) — processed by Stripe to collect payments and issue invoices (performance of the contract and accounting obligations). We never see your card number.
  • Your questions to the assistant — the text of the question, the most recent messages and the state of the page (style chosen, type of image, last message); never your images — to answer you (performance of the contract).
  • Technical data (IP address, browser, request timestamps) — for security, abuse prevention and incident diagnosis (legitimate interest).
  • An irreversible fingerprint of your email address (computed from the normalised address with a secret key; the address itself is not kept), the start date of your free period and the number of free stencils used — kept, including after your account is deleted, so that the free period and the free stencils are granted only once (legitimate interest: abuse prevention).
  • Sign-in attempts and the number of requests (IP address included) — recorded for the security of the service and abuse prevention (legitimate interest), kept for thirty days at most.
  • Founding member applications (name or artist name, email, Instagram, website, city, workplace, message) — to review the application, reply to you and manage the founding member status (pre-contractual steps and performance of the contract); testers' feedback (answers to the questionnaire under each stencil, text only) — to improve the service (legitimate interest).

We use no analytics or advertising tools, and we neither sell nor rent any data.

How long

  • Images sent for a preview: deleted automatically after one day, unless a stencil has been generated from them (the original photo is then kept with the stencil).
  • Stencils, retouched versions and original photos: for the history period of your plan (twelve months on Solo and for free accounts, unlimited on Studio); after that, they are deleted automatically, files included. You can delete them yourself at any time.
  • Account: deleted immediately, with all its data, from Settings → Data (or within thirty days if you write to us). Invoices are kept for ten years, as required by law.
  • Technical logs: thirty days at most.
  • Fingerprint of the email address, start date of the free period and number of free stencils used: three years after the account is deleted.
  • Founding member applications: deleted twelve months after a rejection; if accepted, kept for as long as the founding member status lasts. Testers' feedback: deleted with the account.

Who has access

Our providers, each for its own part of the service and under contract:

  • Vercel (application; Vercel Inc., United States — runtime servers in Frankfurt), Neon (database; Neon Inc., United States — data in Frankfurt), Cloudflare (image storage; Cloudflare Inc., United States — storage under European Union jurisdiction) and Fly.io (computing engine; Fly.io Inc., United States — servers in Paris): your data is hosted in the European Union, but these American companies may access it from the United States (maintenance, support).
  • Stripe (payments and invoices; Stripe Payments Europe Ltd., Ireland, and Stripe, Inc., United States) and Resend (email delivery; United States — sending servers in Ireland).
  • Cloudflare Turnstile (anti-bot protection of the sign-in form; Cloudflare Inc., United States): when you request a code, your IP address and technical characteristics of your browser are checked to keep bots out, with no advertising cookie or tracking.
  • Replicate, LLC (United States, part of Cloudflare), which runs the artificial intelligence models. Every image you upload is sent there in reduced size for an automatic check of whether it is sexual in nature (a reminder of the terms is displayed, nothing is blocked; only the result is recorded in the technical log); HD and Pro stencils are computed there; questions to the assistant are processed there. We send it neither your name nor your email address. Replicate deletes the inputs and outputs of these computations one hour later (Replicate's rule for predictions made through its API): that is the only retention period we can state.
  • Through Replicate, the models of their publishers: Seedream 4.5 by ByteDance (China; Pro and AI Liner stencils), Claude Haiku 4.5 and Claude Sonnet 4.5 by Anthropic, PBC (United States; assistant, and automatic fidelity check of each Pro stencil: the drawing, reduced in size, and its stencil are shown to it to spot a deformed or added shape before delivery) and an open-source image classifier (content check). Depending on the model, Replicate may pass the request on to its publisher, which processes it under its own terms and retention periods.
  • Where applicable, fal.ai (Features and Labels, Inc., United States), which may replace Replicate for computing HD stencils; we do not send it your name or email address either, and the retention period is then the one set by its terms.
  • Safeguards for transfers outside the European Union and Switzerland: for Vercel, Neon, Fly.io, Cloudflare, Resend and Stripe, the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (recognised in Switzerland by the FDPIC) included in their data processing agreements and, for certified companies, the EU–US and Swiss–US Data Privacy Framework. For Replicate (part of Cloudflare), we have asked to sign its data processing agreement (DPA), which includes the standard contractual clauses; this notice will be updated as soon as it is received. The Liner stencil (except the “AI Liner” option) and the backup stencil, by contrast, are calculated entirely on our servers in Europe.

Images are served through signed links valid for one hour, generated only for your account (and, if you have joined a studio, for its members).

Your rights

You can request access to your data, its rectification, erasure or portability, the restriction of processing, or object to it, by writing to contact@stenciliner.com. We reply within one month. You can also contact the supervisory authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, edoeb.admin.ch); if you live in the European Union, the data protection authority of your country of residence.

The service is reserved for adults; we do not knowingly collect data about minors.

Cookies

Stenciliner only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work, which do not require consent:

  • the session cookie, which keeps you signed in (sixty days at most);
  • sign-in security cookies (anti-forgery protection, the page to return to after sign-in);
  • the language cookie (es-site-lang), which remembers the language chosen when signing in, for emails and sign-in pages (thirty days at most);
  • during sign-in, your email address (one hour at most), so you are not asked for it again when you type the code.

The application also stores a few display preferences in your browser (whether you have completed the guided tour, Tattoo Mode brightness) and, for offline Tattoo Mode, a copy of the last ten stencils you opened and their original photo. None of this leaves your device, and everything is erased when you sign out or delete your account. The payment page, hosted by Stripe, uses its own cookies, described in its policy.
